How many people know what soap really is? Several of the cleansing bars that you buy at the store, for example, are the detergents and soaps do not at all. Syndet are called bars or bars of detergent. They are made from synthesized chemicals and are usually much harsher than soap. The Detergents contain petroleum distillates rather than oil. On the other hand, true soap is made from natural oils (like coconut and palm oil) and is a more gentle cleanser suitable for use on skin that is detergent.

Soaps, unlike detergents, are made by combining sodium hydroxide or lye, oils and water in a process known as "saponification". Some people may question the use of lye in the soap craft. The fact is that all soap is made with lye. What you need to make clear is that once the process of saponification is complete, the lye and oil molecules have combined and chemically changed into soap and glycerin. There is no lye present in the finished soap bars.

The oils in our soaps are created with a specific purpose. The coconut oil creates a wonderful lather. Olive oil is used for high quality, long lasting bar. Canola and palm oil lead nutrients to the skin, and safflower oil make a creamy bar.

Glycerin is a skin soothing emollient that adds to the goodness of handmade soap. In the Commercial glycerin soap is removed for sale to the cosmetic industry to sell separately, sometimes at a higher price than the soap itself! Glycerin is important skin care because it is a moisturizer. Humectants draw moisture from the air, which in turn moisturize your skin. Overall 1 / 5 of a bar of our glycerin soap.

Most soaps have artificial ingredients to scent or color. A little homemade soap is scented with fragrance oils. These are synthetic chemicals that mix to imitate a particular scent. They have contributed in many cases to chemical sensitivity in some people. They also lack the benefits of aromatherapy. The smells in our soaps should come only from essential oils, which are steamed or pressure of plants. Essential oils are the ingredients of the fragrance emitted by plants and are at the heart of aromatherapy. Not only smell good, have many beneficial effects on the body, mind and spirit.

The coloring in our soap must come from nature. Rose petals and lavender can be used. Earth Pigments can also be used, which are simply finely ground rocks. This makes the colors rich and the earth, rather than artificial looking.

During the saponification process, why sodium hydroxide produces a solid soap?

That's because that soaps, salts of being, have a very high melting point, and also much less soluble than sodium hydroxide. The result is that triglycerides are broken down free fatty acid and glycerol by the hydroxide and heat, and fatty acids associated with negatively charged sodium ions to form soaps, which precipitate out of the solution, since the form in aqueous mixture. The soaps do not melt at temperatures of boiling water and leaving the solution as soon as the saturation point is reached ... a foregone conclusion if given enough reagents.
