Soap Making Molds

Can plaster be used as a mold for making soap?

I need to make a soap mold and im not sure what to make it out of. Would plaster work? Is there any other kind of thing to make molds for soap? I tried craft molding stuff but it wouldn't hold its shape enough to pour hot soap into!

A soap mold should be flexible so you can remove the soap without damaging it. And I suspect plaster debris would be embedded in the soap if you used it as a mold.

Some people make soap molds out of wood by building little boxes, then removing the screws to release the soap when it's firm. I use silicone baking molds -- the kind you buy in the bakeware departments of stores like Target or Wal-Mart. They come in basic loaf shapes (little ones for individual servings of bread or cake) and fancy designs (stars, animals, etc.). And you can buy plastic ones at stores like Michaels, though those ones aren't quite as good as silicone ones.
