Using your own special formula to mix and form the final product, you can personalize the function of the bar according to your own special needs. Here are some tips and pointers for those who are interested in making their own cleanser bars.

Basically cleanser blocks are made of water, lye and animal fats. Depending on the type of skin you and your family has, you can mix your own combination of oils. Most of the time, homemade blocks is made of organic mixture of natural oils such as jojoba oils, cocoa butter and shea butter.

The process of making the blocks consists of ‘saponication' procedure where the blend of water, animal fats and lye is held together by hydrogen and glycerin.  Glycerin is the ingredient which functions as a moisturizer and most commercial bars do not have much glycerin in them. That is why; commercial bars are very hard and solid. They also cause damage to the skin by leaving it dry. Proper homemade blocks must not contain any lye after the end result although the ingredient is needed in the initial procedure.

Basically, before you get started on your saga to make your own cleanser blocks, you need to follow certain guidelines in preparing the ingredients. Be sure to measure the ingredients accurately so that the mixture comes out balanced. You would not want a batch of blocks which is too condensed or too diluted. Make certain the lye is mixed in another basin, separate from the animal fats.

You must remember the five steps in the bar-making procedure; measuring, stirring, pouring, cutting, curing and packaging.
