I have just ordered the 2lb bag for the 3rd time. We are a family of 5, and I wash all of our laundry in them, including diapers. I find that adding either oxybleach or borax totally takes care of stains, but I had to do that with my old detergent anyway. Shipping with this company is super fast!

Worst "detergent" ever

It would be difficult for me to overstate my disappointment in these soap nuts. I bought some from another seller online and I'm so horrified by the results that I'm trying to warn people.I tried these out for a couple of months, and followed instructions (let them soak in hot water before adding to the machine, plus washed the clothes in warm water, and added OxyClean and baking soda in to the washer too). I am still not sure how many items have been ruined, but the list just keeps getting longer. Clothes do not come out clean, and you'd better inspect them heavily before throwing them in the dryer because the heat sets the stains. I am talking about "stains" like some clay mask residue on a towel, which I've never had trouble getting out of my laundry before, but which soap nuts did not do anything for at all. I am not talking about red wine, blood, or other difficult stains. Don't waste your time, money, or hot water on NaturOli soap nuts because they'll only ruin your laundry. I really want a good eco-friendly detergent that WORKS, so I had to go back to liquids in plastic containers until a better alternative comes along.

I have been trying to figure out how to quit using dryer sheets for awhile... It's not that I hate them, but it is especially annoying when my husband forgets to add them and the clothes or towels are all full of static! I tried the dryer balls and really wanted for them to work- nope! I tried using more softener, nope! Now with these soap nuts, not only do I not need to use dryer sheets, I am also not using softener or adding colored bleach... I am saving SO much money!!!! These are AMAZING--- My clothes have never felt so soft.

Love These Nuts!

I ordered my nuts straight from the NaturOli web site and I couldn't be more pleased with them. I ordered them after making a horrible mistake and ordering from Maggie's first. The Maggie's nuts were my first set of soap nuts and what a TERRIBLE impression! They were black, tacky and wrapped in cellophane that apparently had water trapped in it. They had hardly any soap by the time they got to me.I'm sooooo glad I decided to try again and order from NaturOli this time. The nuts they shipped me were a warm, golden brown, packaged in a cloth bag and just 5 nuts will do an entire weeks worth of laundry for me (5 loads, 4 washed in cold and 1 washed in hot). I was so pleased with the way the soap nuts cleaned my clothes that I ordered a years worth of nuts after my initial order got low and I'm shipping off 6 weeks worth to my mom to try!Just a note: If you have embedded odors in your clothes already (armpit area, etc.) that reg laundry detergent just covered up, soaking the clothes in a vinegar/water solution for about an hour will help get the smell out. Because soap nuts have no fragrance you will notice the odors after washing with the soap nuts as the perfume will be washed out of your clothes but the smells it was covering up will remain set in the fabric. I was shocked at some of the odors regular laundry detergent had just covered up, but after the vinegar/water soak got the set in smells out the soap nuts have kept the odors gone (and I now use wool dryer balls, not dryer sheets, so there is NOTHING in my wash to cover up odors anymore).

I first hear about soap nuts when my girlfriend got a sample from someone. We checked into it and discovered how versatile they were. I also have skin allergies and have been using one detergent for years because it's the only one I don't react to when I do laundry. Yet, I still suffer from dry skin at times. Well, I switched to the soap nuts and discovered they were great. My skin has cleared up and the clothes are clean all the time. I even used them to clean the pet bedding and it got cat urine out on the first wash. I've totally switched over to the nuts. You don't have to use fabric softener either. I would recommend this to anyone with pets or any type of skin condition.

I ordered this small package of soapnuts to give them a try before I committed to a big "economy" size and just came back to order the bigger package. I am very happy with them. They clean every bit as well as my old detergent (all free and clear) and are easy to use, the same price (actually cheaper in bulk) and of course all natural. I first found out about them thru researching washing cloth diapers. My baby isn't quit here yet so I really can't say definitively how well they will do, but they got very strong urine smells out of my 4 year old's sheets and blankets when he had an accident no problem.

Don't Bother With a Small Order...Think Big!!

I made the mistake of ordering the 40 load soap nuts. I should have listened to other customers who said to just go for the 4 pound bag of them. I ordered the 1/4 pound of soap nuts and am now working on a 4 pound bag of them. I have very hard water and a front load washer. I use 5 soap nuts for 4 loads and I am very happy with the results. Don't use cold water or you will be disappointed...only warm water will do. Oh, and don't expect suds...even without the chemical suds, your clothes will be clean, smell fresh, and be soft.

I was turned on to soap nuts when I ordered a sample from Maggie's. So I bought more. The large bag I purchased from them were in a cellophane bag (inside a linen bag) and were a complete messy, sticky glob. I thought that's just how soap nuts were. Yes, they seemed to do an adequate job in the laundry, but were not very fun to touch. Then I tried Naturoli. These soap nuts are dry, clean, packaged in linen bags without the un-earth-friendly cellophane and do an amazing job at cleaning laundry. The price is good, packaging is superior, all literature is beautifully printed. Compared to Maggie's, it's like night and day. Choose the light - choose Naturoli! Why did I not know about this miracle berry/nut sooner? What a great product! I only use organic products and was looking for an alternative soap option. Simple to use, compostable, and SUPER COST EFFECTIVE! Yipee! Thanks to all the reviews I read I decided to order and try, thank goodness. I would suggest you order the largest amount available since you get double for a few dollars more.....wish I did.

I was really hoping these would work great. They are a great alternative to fabric softener. I use these with a little bit of baking soda and 1/4 of the soap I normally use. The main problem I have is I did have the soap nut bag bleed on one of my favorite shirts. I rewashed the shirt with some oxiclean and it seems to be fine. However have soap nut stain ,even if it was only for a little bit, on my favorite Grateful Dead shirt is a little bit annoying. Overall a good product. I may have to make some adjustments.

Great Detergent Alternative

I've been searching for a solution to my detergent-sensitive eczema and stumbled across soap nuts as a detergent alternative. After just one wash, I noticed a difference in the condition of my skin. I ordered the soap nuts and received my order within a few days. Included was a free sample for some of their face cream that I wasn't expecting too.This is my first experience with soap nuts, NaturOli are the only brand I've tried. I've done several loads of wash so far and the nuts still look like they can handle a few more.The clothes really do come out of the dryer feeling soft without using any dryer sheets or fabric softener! Only down side is with it being winter here and the heater running all the time I have a SMALL static problem...not sure how to deal with that.I would recommend these and I will be buying them again.

Great way to test drive soap nuts!

My sister recommended soap nuts to me as a detergent alternative for when I begin cloth diapering my baby. She uses Maggie's soap nuts, but based on the reviews about quality control, I decided to try the NaturOli sample pack. We had just purchased a big bottle of Tide but had not opened it yet, and the sample pack came in time for our weekly laundry.The nuts came in the little muslin bag. They look just like the nuts in the photo - medium brown and clean. They are soft shells, not nuts like a walnut. I followed the instructions and threw the bag with the 5 little nuts into my front-loading washer. I didn't stand around and wait to see if suds would form, but when the load was finished, I was very happy to find clean clothes with no fragrance or odor. Even stinky underwear came out smelling like...well, nothing. I am accustomed to detergents and fabric softeners with some sort of fragrance, but now that I understand those are really chemicals I am smelling, I was happy to know that no fragrance or stink meant the soap nuts worked.I washed 7 loads of laundry with this little bag, the last load being my dog's blanket. Still no odor (and my dog had needed a bath, so the blankets were ripe!)These soap nuts do not do a good job of getting out any sort of stains, so I'll have to find a way to pretreat any stained clothing. Also, at one point I couldn't find the little bag because it got caught in my laundry, but I did eventually find it. But as far as cleaning my laundry, I think the soap nuts did an awesome job!I was going to buy the 1/4lb package, but I liked them so much that I just bought the 5lb bag of pieces, and gave a friend a little sample pack to try. I don't think I'll use 5 nuts for 7 loads next time, but I expect that the 5lb bag will last me close to 2 years, and will cost me less than $0.10 per load. That's over half the cost of Tide HE when its on sale.For the money, it is definitely worth trying the sample pack to see if soap nuts are for you. You can always go back to commercial detergent if you decide that's your preference.

Works Surprisingly Well!

I bought the small (6 load)pack of these to try them out before our baby is born in several months. One of my friends uses them on diapers and, because my skin in terribly sensitive I wanted to test them on my skin before I use them on the baby. I am very pleased with the results.When the soapnuts came in the mail I went right to the washer to use them. I had been saving up dishcloths, underwear, socks and gym cloths to give them a real test. As my friend had reported, the laundry came out smelling like nothing! No fragrance, no dirt, no laundry odors, it really smelled like nothing. (As a disclaimer I did add a scoop of Oxygen bleach for stain fighting but I can not imagine that it could have produced these results on its own.I have done four loads now of tough laundry and everything has had the same good smell-free result. Also, I have not yet had a bad skin reaction which is wonderful.The only annoying thing is finding the little bag in the washed clothing but the package said that drying in the dryer would not hurt the sopanuts so it is not a major deal. When I buy more I think I will use two bags at once if it does not become annoying to keep track of how long I have been using each bag. I will be buying a two pound bag today to further test this product in my home.

clean laundry

This product cleaned my clothes as good if not better than commercial detergent. My clothes came out smelling good and clean. I've already bought more, this time in bulk. I used them for 6 or 7 loads and I couldn't tell if the last was less clean than the first.

One of the previous reviews I felt was totally uncalled for since it appears that the person making the comment has never used this product. I am a consumer and recently heard about these soap nuts. I became very curious and found this sample pack. I received this promptly after ordering and immediatley started using them. I am so impressed! I am very much considering switching to these. From all the research I've done, I feel that I will save quite a bit of money. The product worked very well, left my clothes clean and scent free, and I didn't have to use a fabric softner. I encourage anyone to try these. Yes, there may be other companies out there selling soap nuts, but this happens to be the one I chose and the company sells a high quality product that works!

Check out all of the reviews from each reviewer. This merchant has really stacked the deck. That is poor in my site. Most of these reviewers must have a closet full of Soap nuts whether it is Naturoli brand or another brand since most of the reviewers reviewed many products. And the other brands all received poor ratings (probably unfairly) while all of the Naturoli items have 5 stars. Hmmmmmmmmm . . . the product may very well be good but the morals behind this are low. I will shop elsewhere.

My only regret is that i bought this dinky sized one and not the 4 lb one =PAMAZING! You have to let it soak in hot water first or boil it first. That was my mistake in the beginning but now that i boiled it first, fantastic.

If you're skeptical about soap nuts, it's understandable. I was. But to use them is to love them. This sounds weird, but I never knew what clean and fresh even felt or smelled like before doing laundery using soap nuts. Towels, linens, clothes, everything is like better than new. I have tried three other companies that sell soap nuts in North America.Other companies had smaller soap nuts and a lot of broken pieces that seemed to look like they were from a bunch of different types of soap nut trees. WHY WHY WHY have I not done it sooner?!

I have not used another brand of soap nuts except naturoli. Then again why would I when it is just fantastic?! I once thought the price is kinda hefty since i bought a smaller one to experiment. Then i see this deal and i felt like a fool for not buying this instead. In the beginning i chucked the soap nuts in cold water with my wash and i was not too thrilled about the results but I decided, for earth i will endure a semi clean shirt. But as i reread the Naturoli site (Lots of wonderful info) i boiled it and oh man.. I LOVE IT! The smell is so natural and beautiful. I hate fragrance detergent. I've been getting my sister to use it but my brothers find it a hassle to have to put it in hot water first so they dont. grrr.But it is has been a heaven sent. When I see such a product I wondered why humankind ever even created commercial detergents when this stuff is so much better?Oh, and i love how its a plant. It will force people not to deforest and plant more trees. I have absolutely no complaint about these soap nuts. The only thing maybe is i have to boil every time but its well worth it!

Great for front-loading washers!

I got a front loading washing machine about a year ago, and I love it except for when I wash towels. They never came out clean-smelling. That all changed when I started using these Soap Nuts. Now my towels and all my other laundry come out smelling and looking cleaner than ever! I couldn't find a lot of information about how many soap nuts to use for the front loading washers, since they use less water than the top loading washers. But I have been using 3 nuts and reusing them at least 4 times with no problems. These are wonderful!

Cleans great

I have been using these soap berries for about a year now and really like it a lot. It cleans great, smells great, and is all natural. I can combine it with lemon juice, lavender oil, pine oil, baking soda, vinegar, borax... whatever I want/need... to create different, all natural, cleaning solutions for every kind of cleaning that needs to be done....laundry, bathroom, dishes, bathe the dogs, wash the car, detail the inside of the car... this stuff is great!

They are CHEAP, and they WORK!

Of course, these won't whiten, they aren't bleach. For those who use oxygen bleaches, I personally recommend OxyBoost (Google it). It's much stronger than what you get at the market.As for the cost, I bought the 5 lb bag to use for a family with kids who get dirty, using a super size HE washer. I've gone through half the bag in 6 months so far, using enough pieces to add up to about 6 whole nuts. [that may be the problem for some users who have said they don't work--you need 5-7 nuts-worth, not pieces of nuts, per load, regardless of brand.) I used to buy two 210 oz Ecos detergent at Costco for $17 every 3 months. Hmm, $136/year Ecos + gasoline vs $50/year Naturoli (what I paid Amazon in January). You check my math. :}I've tried Maggie's soap nuts, which are much more expensive. You get less actual soap for the weight and volume because they don't remove the seeds, which also adds to shipping & petroleum use. I didn't find Maggie's brand any different than NaturoliRemember, you are also dealing with a FRUIT here, not a lab-standardized industry formula. Crops may vary in saponin content from time to time, just like anything you farm. Soap nuts are sourced from other countries at this point, the sellers here don't grow their own. So the brand means very little in terms of effectiveness.Hope one day soap nuts are grown commercially in the USA, but for that to happen, there needs to be a demand. We do have them here: Chinese soapberry trees. Profit talks, people! :}

Subpar product vs. other brands

This is not a negative review of soap nuts in general, which I love and have been using exclusively as detergent for almost 5 years. Rather, this is a negative review of NaturOli's product, the 5 lb. soap nut pieces. In short, the product just does not work as well as Maggie's whole soap nuts.I was very excited to see this product on the market, as it is a cheaper and (I believed) equally effective alternative to what I had been buying. However, since I started using them, I have been required to use significantly more product for each load, and I must religiously swap out all the soap nuts after two loads. Trying to use the nuts for a third load inevitably results in clothes that remain dirty and smell musty and gross. This is in comparison to Maggie's whole soap nuts, when a third and even a fourth load of laundry from the same bag would come out just as clean as the first.Also, the smaller pieces don't stay put in the little cotton bags, so I'm often picking out soap nut pieces from my laundered clothing. I know, it's a small detail, but it's aggravating after a while.I thought that buying this huge bag would save us money; instead it has been a disappointing reminder that you do get what you pay for. I can't wait until we've used it all so that I can go back to whole soap nuts again.

Doesn't work well on whites

I've been using soapnut pieces with the HE front load washing machine for 6 months now. Was very satisfied with NaturOli the company but soapnuts simply didn't work as well as expected. For those who are thinking about trying it, bear in mind:1)Don't expect white clothes come out bright white (I even use oxygen bleach everytime. Still, my husband's under shirts and my 2-year-old son's T-shirts are stained and turning yellow/grey.)2)You might need much more soapnut pieces per load than suggested. We have hard water. I originally used equivalent to 5 whole nuts per load and used them for 4 loads (I also added baking soda or vinegar to each load). Then I noticed my clothes came out smelling stinky. Now I know better to use 50% more soapnuts per load and only use them for 2 loads. Turns out, using soapnuts is not very economical.With that said, soapnuts are great for dark color clothes and towels. Clothes and towels come out fluffy and soft without having to use any softner. I also like soapnuts as a degreaser/cleaner for the kitchen. I use pieces/powder to scrub the stove and it works great.

Handy to have

i love soap nuts. I no longer have that "yucky" feeling on my hands after folding the washing that makes me immediatly wash and moisturise my hands (which is ironic since I was folding clean clothes). The soap nuts leave clothes soft and residue free. The extra wash bags have been very handy for me to have because it's sometimes hard to find the soap nut wash bag in amongst the newly washed clothes in the washing machine and it therefore goes into the dryer with all of the clothes. Having extra wash bags means that I can just fill a new wash bag with soap nuts and chuck it in with the next load then use the other wash bag that went into the dryer later. Does that make sense? :) I read that soap nuts are not damaged if they go in the dryer. A couple of tips that have helped me: 1, We have hard water so vinegar helps the soap nuts work better; 2, I sometimes forgot how many times I had used the bags so I put 3 sticky notes on my washing machine. The first has the numbers 1 - 2, the 2nd has 3 - 4, the 3rd has 5 - 6. I point the top of the soap nut wash bag to the number of times it has been used so I no longer have to try and remember.
