Melt & Pour Soap Frosting Revisited
Soap Making Process cold and melt and pour soap Rebatching - Easy to use!
Cold Process soap:
The type of soap my grandmother made is called "Cold Process Soap (commonly known as" CP " soap). It is produced by the combination of fatty acids (oils) and sodium hydroxide (lye) together. Fatty acids can be almost any oil - to from beef tallow, olive oil, hemp oil. The combinations to make your personal recipe are endless.
Soap making cold process is a combination of art and science. The abridged version of this type of soap is that a certain proportion of hydroxide lye (sodium) and water to fatty acids that forms a chemical reaction called "saponifaction. During saponification, the oils and lye mixture and become soap - the process takes about six weeks to fully complete. Soap has to harden and dry before it can be used safely.
Process cold soap requires the use of bleach (can not buy anywhere now) and the use of safety equipment such as goggles and gloves. By Please do not try to make cold process soap without further investigation the method. Cold process soap is known for its hardness, long life. Depending on the oils, the bar can have great lather (coconut oil has excellent properties of foam), be incredibly mild (olive oil is known for its gentle qualities) or be very moisturizing (with the addition of oils such as shea butter and cocoa butter or hemp oil).
Advice
- Using a rubber grinder instead of utensils mixture can reach up much faster.
- Measure your oils beforehand that things are move more efficiently.
- It is difficult to get the soap to trace if the ingredients are cool too. Both the bleach and water mixture oil should not be less than 100 degrees each when they are ready to be combined.
- A large plastic bowl can also be used for bleach-water mixture instead of glass.
Lye is extremely caustic. Do soap with children or pets present. Keep vinegar handy in case of exposure to bleach the skin.
Always wear safety gear - safety glasses and rubber gloves.
The soap mixture will remain caustic as it is poured into molds. Handle with care.
Equipment you need:
A 4-6 cup lye-resistant container for the mixture of bleach and water. This container should be stainless steel, glass or resistant to heat (212 degrees F) plastics. Should not be aluminum or tin.
Another heat-resistant bowl or large pot (stainless steel, enamel working or plastic) to mix soap
A large saucepan for heating oil
Spatulas heavy-duty rubber or wooden spoons mix
A scale for measuring quality of ingredients (which is good to have another one in ounces and grams, if possible)
A soap mold - Can be anything from a TM Rubbermaid () Type of container to a wooden tray or even a heavy cardboard box of destination. Use your imagination and be on the look outside of the containers that are made molds of Nice. It is adviseable to use something flexible so that the soap will come easily with a little twist.
The role wax or a plastic bag to line the molds to prevent leaks and damage to the mold itself. Replace cardboard molds when deformed to avoid the bars unshapely. We have our line mold with wax paper to facilitate the "floor" soaps.
Two thermometers control of the temperatures of the oils and lye solution - the type used to make sweets that will work best (220 degrees F)
Goggles and gloves rubber
Melt and Pour Soap:
Technically, all soap is handmade Soap glycerine. "In many commercial soaps, all the extra glycerol (formed naturally by the process method of soap making cold) will be collected from the soap. Thus, all glycerin soap handmade real is rich (from artisanal soap makers have no glycerine was of soap).
In today's market, the term "glycerin soap" is commonly used to refer to clear soap. In general, the extra clear glycerine soap is added to it to produce very nourishing, moisturizing bar. Glycerin is a humectant. "Draws moisture to itself, the theory is that if you wash with glycerin soap, a thin layer of glycerin will remain, drawing moisture from your skin. But if the bar is opaque (ie milk soap goat, etc.) only has ingredients such as milk and herbs that have darkened and thickened it. The color does not have to be "clear" to be a bar of glycerin certainly is good for the skin.
Many types of soap base can be purchased in large blocks that were cast, color and fragrance, and scraped into molds (or used to make bars of soap to be sliced). This type of soap that is called "Melt and Pour" and the art of melting and pouring is called "Soap Casting." Pour melted and is gaining popularity due to its ease of use. No significant safety measures (other than common sense - not put your hand into the hot soap, not cut your finger with a knife, etc. ..) needed to soapcasting. Children can do. It's a great outlet for creative types. You can stamp, color, or soap mold in anything your imagination conjures.
Rebatching Soaps: title = "Nee Nee">
Rebatching is another form of soap making process cold. You make your process soap cold from the ground up, the grill top, placed over a heat source in a water heater, (or microwave) with a little liquid (water works very well), and the mixture is melted in a sentimental affair which add herbs or dyes and perfumes. This method is often used to preserve the scent or the healing properties of some essential oils. You can also save the bar rebatch "ugly" of cold process soap that you can give.
What you need to the method shown below:
- A cheese grater
- boiler or a roasting bag with twisty tie
- a large pot (as if boiling spagetti noodles)
- a pound or two of use or "ugly" soap shavings
- 4 ounces of liquid (milk, water, tea, etc.)
- a mold for soap - It is made of aluminum, zinc, copper, iron or Teflon (who prefer wood)
- wax paper
- stainless steel or heavy large plastic spoon
- Rubber / Latex gloves
- pot holder
BOIL IN BAG ** FORM **: One of the most foolproof methods I've found for Rebatching soaps is to grind the base or bars of soap with a grater Cheese or other device.
I usually make 2 pounds at a time that is simple, add about 1 / 2 cup water or milk. Use more soap liquid if too stiff. cured soap will have more liquidity to merge it with. freshest soap base will need less liquid to melt. Use a roasting bag or boiling the bag (like cooking a turkey, chicken or roast beef), and tie the game closed.
Bring a large pot of water (about 3-4 inches of water will do, just enough to float their bag of soap) to a slow, boiling bubbles. Just steam, is my advice. Place the bag in hot water for about 15 minutes (set the timer and not straying too fast!). Take the bag out of the water when the timer goes off and use a pot holder (be careful because it's hot) bag knees until the soap is less smooth. Put back in pot for 10-15 minutes. Keep an eye on it, you get darker and liquids such as pudding.
When it melts evenly, carefully open the bag (my husband and I do this as a team), and add your colors, fragrances or essential oils, herbs, flower petals, whatever blows your skirt up ... Seal the bag again, or hold firmly to the open end and knead the content again until blended.
Cut the end of the bag away, like a pastry bag ... and placed in molds. Squeeze or let the finished soap (depending on the size of the hole is cut, going out too fast or too slow). Be created in about 24 hours. You can then pop the molds to dry on wax paper for 1 day to 3 weeks depending on how long it takes to create, can be used fairly quickly.
