Recipes for making your own natural soap at home with lye

There are so many recipes to make your own natural soap, that it might make your head spin when you consider the options. Soapmaking is a great thing and it's great to know what ingredients are going into your soap that you are using over and over again on your skin. It's great to know that you are doing a healthy thing for your family.

And there are many different ways of starting to make soap at home. You can use premade kits or make your own soap from scratch.

One of the most popular and simple recipes for making soap at home is the Castile soap recipe. This basically involves just using the chemical lye and water and olive oil.

For all your ingredients you're going to need pure ingredients and pure oil.  When you get your lye it needs to be pure lie which is hundred percent sodium hydroxide and you can usually find this at a local hardware store. However if you can't locate it at a local hardware store you may be able to find it online somewhere.

Your water needs to be pure filtered or softened water. You don't want to use hard tap water because it likely contains minerals and things which can negatively alter the soapmaking process and cause it not to work. As

You also need pure olive oil to make Castile soap. So if you go to the grocery store and you see a bottle labeled all of oil, you still want to check on the backside for the ingredients to see whether it contains other ingredients because you're looking for pure 100% olive oil.

Another extremely popular soap to make is soap out of goats milk. So you can use evaporator goats milk from the can or you can use fresh goat's milk.

Goats milk is popular because of its reputation for being very nourishing on the skin due to the plentiful vitamins it contains such as vitamin E which is important for skin care.

And when you are mixing the dry lye into your fresh goat's milk and water, you may find that because of the goats milk, your mix is now looking quite orange. And there is no way to really get around this when you're using goats milk. You can try to set your container in ice before you pour the dry lye into it, but it may not completely take away the orange color.

However, there are other ways to help change the color and it still may be worth the benefit of having goats milk soap.

I should also note that making soap with goats milk typically takes a little bit more time than most other soapmaking methods.

And when you are making soap with goats milk or with just water and oil, you need to make sure to be careful with the lye and that you pour the dry lye into the water and goats milk and not the liquid into the lye.

For mixing the lye with your water or the lye with your goat's milk and water, you want to use a heatproof container, like a stainless steel container to help mix the lye. Your containers should be at least two quarts.

So you would want to pour your distilled or filtered or softened water into your heatproof container and then slowly and carefully add the measured and proper amount of lye  and stir carefully with a spatula to help dissolve the lye.  I will note that it's going to get hot and you want to make sure to not breathing the fumes while it is mixing. You want to mix it up really quick and carefully and then get away from it while it is fuming for a couple minutes.

Once the new lye base is mixed you want to set it aside somewhere safe while it cools off.

You then need to heat your olive oil or whatever all oil you're using in a separate heating container to about 100 degrees F and then remove it from the heat when it reaches 100 degrees.

Then you want to pour your lipase that is now cooled off into the oil, slowly and carefully.

You will keep stirring as the mix gets smoother and starts to reach trace. This is not the whole entire process and you will need to follow your own specific measurements and recipes.

Doing your own soap making at home can be a tremendously rewarding experience and you can feel great about it knowing that you are nourishing your skin naturally and caring for your family by knowing what ingredients you are using in your soap.

You can also make the process more fun by customizing and using oatmeal or lemongrass or even grounds coffee beans to make things more fun and interesting.

There many different ways of coloring your soap as well, like using natural powders such as indigo to Keller your soap blue.

Make sure to start off with a recipe that you understand and if you are making soap from scratch be extremely careful with the chemicals so that you are comfortable with making your own soap at home and it can be a fun experience for you.
