Lovely Lavender

If there is a sunny spot on the ride home, which is an ideal place for a potted lavender or Bush, because its fragrance around every time they come and go. You will get in the habit of running his fingers over its foliage to release the aroma when passing. What could be better than one plant that is decorative, aromatic and provides ingredients for many other projects?

"When I am an old woman to have a Lavender Bush and spray the flowers beneath my sheets and pillow; steep in tea and pressure peaks from the pages of my books. "

Lavender has used for centuries for its healing properties and as a perfume. Already in the year 77 AD, the Greek and Roman physicians testify to the use of lavender for many physical ailments. It is said that relieve depression, calm upset stomachs, and relieves the itching from the bites of integration to name a few of their properties. It can be used for decorating, cooking, crafts and fine gifts.

It is believed that the name of the plant comes from the Latin lavare "" washing and the Romans used to bathe in water scented with lavender. They found it refreshing, and it was in this role that the grass was to be valued for centuries to come. A little lavender water in the temples are considered the ideal treatment for the fumes. Legend has it that lavender was brought to Britain by the Romans from the south of France.

It is a very valuable plant because of its healing, soothing and insect repelling properties. Lavender oil is also used for massage. Records show that the monasteries lavender used medicinally and was listed as such since 1301. The lady of the house used lavender for culinary and medicinal uses, and still had a quarter for the preparation and use of family and staff.

In flowers luxury restaurants are now making a comeback as enhancements to both the taste and appearance of food. As a member of the same family as many of our most popular herbs, it is not surprising that lavender is edible, and its use in food preparation is also back.

Lavender is often used during the Elizabethan era, Tudor and in the preparation of a wide variety of dishes and was a favorite in particular the Queen Elizabeth I. The palace gardeners are required to have lavender flowers available at all times which were used for making preserves, lavender (a blend of lavender flowers and sugar) lavender and sweet tea (a drink made with lavender flowers, boil water and honey.)

Today the flowers can often be found in salads where they put a touch color, fragrance and a bitter-sweet. The flowers and leaves can be used in place of rosemary in many recipes and crystallized flowers make beautiful and tasty cake decoration.

Many so-called medicinal uses for lavender are, in modern scientific evidence, proven to be legitimate. Lavender oil is effective antibiotic activity killing many common bacteria. Lavender oil is widely used during World Wars I and II in the battlefield and when supplies became scarce medical to prevent infection and as a pain reliever. The sedative effects of lavender are well documented in the medical proof of its effectiveness in reducing hyperactivity induced by caffeine, and duration of sleep increased by ingestion or inhalation. Inclusion lavender lotions and oils, located in burns and bee stings to relieve pain aid and its use in massage oils helps relax the muscles.

While many of the medicinal properties lavender involve the use of lavender oil or dried lavender flowers from the stalks or straw left after stripping the flowers can be burned as incense and used it often as a means of deodorizing and disinfecting sick rooms. The other diseases that lavender is very useful in monitoring reports, including things such as controlling dandruff and hair loss when included in shampoos.

Many of these complaints have to be tested scientifically, but it is clear that many former uses of lavender were more than just stories of old. "
