Candle Making: How to Make Home Made Candles House Decor or for a gift!
Candles bring an air of elegance and softness to any room in which they are used. They serve many purposes from simple illumination to create a centerpiece. The candles have been around for centuries. Nobody knows exactly how long they've been around. The Egyptians were among the first to use candles dating back to 3000 BC There are artifacts showing that the first candles with wicks were created during the Roman period in history. Our love for candles and the art of candle making is always in development. This is evident in the styles of the candles we use.
Thus Therefore, you want to make candles?
There are many types of candles to choose when considering the manufacture of candles. The key is to choose a type of candle making and get a pat down before starting another. Start slowly and build your ship. This gives you an idea of working with wax and equipment needed for the manufacture of candles. With so many methods and types of candles you can do can be confusing and frustrating.
Start by working with the candle was the basis. For this type of candle that you need the following: a dedicated pot will only be used for melting the wax, a candy thermometer so you can check the temperature wax, a wooden spoon or two to work with, wax, dye, wicks and supplies can be purchased at your local craft store. Paraffin wax is the most commonly used to candle making today and the best for a beginner to start with.
Find containers that are functional, decorative, and safe. Some of the best places to find the containers are second hand stores, garage sales, and its own kitchen. Examples of containers are such things as old teacups, coffee mugs, funny, good heavy glasses, and of course the jar.
You have what you need, what now?
After collecting all supplies and equipment in a place that is ready to begin. A word of warning here is to ensure that all your equipment is clean and dry. Test your container before poured hot wax on it to make sure it does not break and can be used safely. Place a small drop of hot glue on the metal bottom of the wick to then place it in the center of the container and be sure to press down well. The wick can be maintained in the center by wrapping a small portion of the wick around of a pencil that is on the top of the container. Make sure to secure the pen before pouring the wax.
Security is important when working with heat and wax to keep a fire extinguisher handy. And never throw water on a fire caused by the wax!
Use a large pan, which is approximately 1 / 3 full of water and bring the water temperature to 212 degrees Fahrenheit. Place the pot of wax in water. Keep the water at the same temperature, while melting the wax. No Do not boil water out, add water when needed. Use a thermometer to measure the temperature of the wax. Follow the manufacturer's suggested temperature for melting wax because it varies of with different waxes. Usually the best temperature is 170 container wax at 175 degrees. Never let wax exceed 250 degrees!
Once the wax has melted add the Vybar or steric acid to the wax and mix well. The final step before serving adds color to the melted wax making sure to mix well. Now you're ready to pour the melted candle wax into your container. Fill the container leaving about ¼ of space for the wick. Once the candle wax has set, then you can remove pencil. Trim the wick ¼ inch of wax.
