How can I start making my own candles?

I'm looking for a hobby because they have none and have always loved scented candles and soaps. How do I start and where is the best place to get supplies.

Candle making is really not that hard, but you have to be cautious (making candles involves high temperatures, flammable substances and chemicals potentially harmful). The beginner should start with the container candles (usually in cans or glass jars) as this will give some experience working with waxes, wicks, dyes and perfumes. Note that there are many differnt types of waxes (container, pillar, soy, gel) and scents (not all are safe together). You have received some bad (potentially dangerous) suggestions in the responses of others (sorry). I would recommend that you look at some of the sites that provide links to take a lesson, or buy an introductory book / video. There are plenty of good and bad information out there, please be careful.
